When all eyes turn to the polls, newsrooms turn to AP

Race calls you can count on

We are the only organization to collect and verify U.S. election returns in every county, parish, city and town across the country, declaring winners in thousands of down-ticket races — a total of 7,046 in 2018 — in addition to races for president, U.S. House and Senate, governor and other statewide offices.

Get continuously updated election results you can rely on through interactive maps and an easily searchable API. We're experts in gathering and delivering critical information, and election results are no exception.

How we count the vote

“Calling races, from the national level to state legislatures, is a vital function the AP provides to its members and customers. Being able to accurately and quickly call those statewide and state-level races is critical to their ability to provide strong election night coverage.”

Sally Buzbee | Senior Vice President and Executive Editor

Polling data you can trust

AP VoteCast, which debuted in 2018, is a modern approach to election polling that overcomes the inherent biases and inaccuracies of the legacy exit poll. Developed in partnership with NORC at the University of Chicago, it is election research that both informs our race calls and provides your newsroom with a more accurate and robust portrait of the American electorate.
